ACA 12-Step

ACA 12-Step Meeting, Fridays 7.30 – 9pm – Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families (ACA) is a Twelve Step, Twelve Tradition program of men and women who grew up in dysfunctional homes.  We meet to share our experience of growing up in an environment where abuse, neglect and trauma infected us. This affects us today and influences how we deal with all aspects of our lives.  ACA provides a safe, nonjudgmental environment that allows us to grieve our childhoods and heal core trauma.  See the ACA UK website for further information & contact numbers  www.adultchildrenofalcoholics.co.uk.

Want to join or know someone who would benefit, get in contact.

So if you have some spare time on your hands we are always looking for people to volunteer, spend time & be friends; we don`t have a website, but contact Stewart via email –  dakers.stewart@gmail.com if you’re interested in doing something rewarding

New Chairman

40 Degreez Trustees recently unanimously voted Iwan Borszcz to be the new Chairman of Trustees for the charity.

Iwan Borszcz has hit the ground running and his wealth of experience will help steer the youth and community charity into a brighter future.

Having previously managed multi-million pound Community Funds in the Corporate World, Iwan has now come to transfer this experience to our cause; sustaining a very real need for supporting the young, vulnerable people in Farnham and the surrounding areas.

We are all very excited about Iwan’s appointment and look forward to updating you with more news to follow.

Welcome back to Hangout

Boys and Girls of year 6 starts on Wednesday 18th September for Boys and Friday 20th for Girls, both clubs running from 3.30 to 5pm. Reason for separate boys and girls clubs is to enable more young people to attend rather than having a waiting list as in previous years.  However if any young person wants to attend the other club as they might have more friends in that one then please feel free ☺ We ask that during the winter months when it gets dark early that parents pick up from 40 Degreez at 5pm. When the spring/summer comes it might be possible with parents permission that young people who live close by can be allowed to walk home.

We are looking forward to meeting the new cohort of year 6’s very soon 😀 and if you are interested in finding out more so your child can join in the fun please email: simon@40degreez.org.uk or helen@40degreez.org.uk.

Generous IT Donation

A Farnham Philanthropist has given a generous donation to 40 Degreez for updating some IT equipment and towards purchasing some youth work software.

He prefers to remain anonymous but has said how pleased he is to help the town’s young people.  Thank you from the young people, staff and trustees of 40 Degreez.

If you would like to help as well why not give us a call and have a chat?  We are always looking for willing volunteers as well as cash to support the many projects running at the centre and elsewhere in the town.

Great residential trip

Following a generous donation from the Farnham Masons St Andrews Lodge, 40 Degreez were able to take a group of 16 young people spanning all our youth clubs to a residential weekend at Haslemere PGL activity centre.

Over the first May bank holiday weekend when the weather showed all its forms in the space of two days! everyone took part in obstacle courses in the rain, abseiling in the wind, zip wire in the freezing cold, giant swing in the sun, problem solving in hail, team building and archery..snowing! and manhunt in the dark!  People challenged themselves physically, mentally and emotionally, quite a few missed home and family but everyone rose to show their best selves, conquered fears, enjoyed being together with friends and made new ones too.

It was a lively weekend of fun, laughter, (a few tears), the gaining of independence, confidence, realizing individual value and becoming a team 🙂 Due to the positive outcomes from this residential we would like to run more.  Kind donations like this one from the Masons make it possible for those who attend our youth clubs to have equal access to valuable opportunities for self-development. Big Thank You from everyone 🙂

If you want to learn more about the work of the 40 Degreez Youth Team give us a call.

40 Degreez and Spark 2019

Big thank you going out to Farnham Maltings for choosing all three 40 Degreez clubs in this years spark 2019 community outreach projects! During February and March we had lots of fun learning from professional artists over a range of creative art forms.

In the Session Drummer Master (see above) class our young people had an exciting evening playing audience to a live performance by professional drummer Paul Glover. They also got the opportunity to sit behind his drum kit and have a go themselves with tuition and tips from Paul.  The FAB club enjoyed making and creating, and took part in lively dance and games sessions with Stop Gap dance company.  Young people from The Hangout club participated in drama and story-telling sessions, and during the Health Hub they learnt about photography and had great fun practicing taking photographs in a professional studio setting.  40 Degreez swayed to the sound of African beats during the Samba Percussion Experience, when a Samba band was formed and enthusiastically took to the stage to play everyone out as parents arrived to pick up their young performers from The Hangout.

The sessions were filmed by talented artist Alex Harvey-Brown and are set to be showcased as part of the spark festival 2019 weekend on Saturday 30 March at Farnham Maltings. spark is the Maltings multi-arts festival for children and young people, bringing everyone together to enjoy, participate, watch and celebrate the arts. Over two days there are FREE workshops and performances for all the family to enjoy.

Lifetime achievement

Existing and past Trustees, youth workers, and volunteers congratulate our Chair of Trustees, Janet Maines MBE, who was recently honoured with a ‘Life Time Achievement Award’ for her long-standing and selfless support to our local community and young people.

40Degreez are extremely proud of and grateful to Janet for her years of service in supporting #YouthWork in #Farnham and the surrounding areas. 40Degreez fills a gap in services locally for young and vulnerable people, a service Janet has championed and made possible and sustainable for many years.
